Tropical Park Oaks, Gulfstream Park, Race 8

Let’s start out with a bomb in the #2 Souper Williwaw, who should be involved early. The two post should help her to either get to the lead or sit a ground-saving trip if another filly wants to push the pace. She is set up to improve second off the layoff and has been working well at Gulfstream. I’m willing to take a shot at 12-1.

Right to her outside, #3 And One More Time enters the race on the heels of three straight wins, including the Grade 1 Natalma. But that win was in September of 2024, as she was sidelined for a year. She looked good on return, so she is capable here, but will be asked to stretch out and take on tougher.

#10 Supa Speed ships in from California, where she was running in graded stakes on the dirt. Now she switches back to her best surface and jumps into the Lynch barn who is capable in this spot, if it were not for the post, she would be higher up in the pecking order.

#8 Souper Zonda is another capable price at 12-1. She broke her maiden over the Gulfstream Park turf course and looked more than capable of being a player in her other turf start at Woodbine. It will be tough to get her picture taken, but she can get a slice.

The Bets: $50 Win #2

Tropical Park Derby, Gulfstream Park, Race #11

Let’s go price hunting in another wide-open race with #6 Layabout. He’s been tested against stakes company the last two. His last race was much better than it looks on paper. He broke from the 11 post, contested for the lead three wide on a fast pace, got the lead and got rundown by a deep closer in a very fast race. There is less speed here and the post is much better.

#3 Tiz Dashing is shipping in from New York off a nice win in the Grade 3 Hill Prince. This is an easier bunch, and he’s a logical horse to improve off that effort, cutting back in distance and second off the layoff.

#7 Chapman’s Peak is a logical favorite, but his best races have been run at longer distances up front. He will have to sit off the pace to win today, and I don’t want to take a horse at a short price that will have to stylistically change to win.

#12 Souper Forces is the closer that ran down Layabout last time, and he is on the upswing. He should get some pace to run into, but switching from the five post to the twelve post will make life more difficult for him.
